There is a lively community of individuals and businesses within Cockermouth's Market Place, Castlegate, and Kirkgate. All are unique and attractive areas of the town which lie over the bridges which span the River Cocker.

This online magazine has been put together by a small team of people who got together in 2006 to form the 'Cockermouth Market Place Community Association' (CMPCA for short).

The CMPCA exist to represent the community of individuals and businesses within Market Place, Castlegate and Kirkgate in order to help:

Gain, promote and celebrate a strong sense of community, and:

To celebrate and promote the historic and present-day cultural characteristics of Market Place, Castlegate and Kirkgate to local people and, of course, to the visitors to the town.
