The Bitter End is a pub with it's own built in micro-brewery that specialises in real ales and delicious bar meals.
The bar is always well stocked with eight hand-pulled real ales and eight wines by the glass. The Bitter End also stocks a range of imported bottle beers including Belgium classics and lagers from Russia, China and South Africa.
The brewery was established in 1995, initially as a one barrel plant using whisky casks as fermenters. It was extensively refurbished in 2004 with an American copper clad integrated brew plant installed. The whole brew process can be seen through a glazed partition in the pub. Brew days vary but are typically twice a week. Cockermouth Pride is always on in the bar; other beers are brewed in rotation plus seasonal, charity and festival specials.
The evening menu includes many of the above dishes but alos offers 10oz Lakeland Steaks (£12-£13), Gammon & Egg (£9) and Tagliatelle (v) for £7.50.
The traditional sunday lunch menu offers Home Made Soup of the Day Served with crusty bread £3.25), Traditional Sunday Lunch of Roast Silverside of Lakeland Beef With Yorkshire pudding, roast potato, seasonal vegetables and rich pan gravy (£7.50) as well as the lunchtme favourites above.
Any other information: Every Tuesday there is a free to enter quiz night starting at 9.15. Thursdays are Chilli Nights - for every three drinks you buy you can claim a bowl of Sue’s homemade chilli topped with cheese and onion (served at 10 pm). About Neo's Cafe
The coffee shop opened in September 2005. The space (which was already a bookshop and gallery) was large enough to accommodate it and so many people had suggested it, one of the principal reasons being that 'Market Place' lacked a coffee shop.
Neo's has become to be thought upon as a venue, it is a natural community gathering place for many residents and is fast-becoming a visitor attraction too during the summer months because it is a bookshop, coffee shop and gallery, unique in Cockermouth.
We welcome families, there is room for pushchairs, there is a baby-changing area, a toy box, and comfy sofas for breastfeeding.
